Acceptance Practice

Filled with anticipation, I hop into my kayak and paddle up the river to where the Laurel is blooming. I let out a contented sigh as I see how the reflection of the flowers creates a Monet-style painting on the water’s surface. It is as if I am floating in the middle of an impressionist work of art, and I feel pure delight.

A flick of my paddle or a passing breeze creates a new image on the water’s surface.

It’s easy for me to accept this series of new paintings for what they are. Neither one of them is better than the other, just different. I wish I could feel this way about the changes I have faced this past year.

This year, like the water paintings, my life has changed with the flick of a paddle. Yet, I know I need to accept these events for what they are and move forward.

May I accept these life changes with the same ease and grace as the water paintings.
